We’re 100 percent sure women around the world loved Fergie’s song, “My humps, my lovely lady lumps,” but 90 percent of them probably sing a different tune when it comes to actual lumps aka cellulite. If there’s one thing we can relate to, it’s how annoying cellulite can be and how hard it is to get rid of. If you have these cottage cheese texture, orange peel or dimples -whatever names you call it – on your thighs, buttocks, abdomen, or upper arms, there is no reason to second-guess yourself! We are here to help!

But, first, a reminder: It’s totally normal and natural.
Cellulite is totally harmless. However, it is, unfortunately, affecting 80-90% of women, even some men. The lumpy, bumpy appearance of cellulite is due to the structure of the connective tissue that lies right under the surface of the skin. When the underlying fat deposits begin to push against the layers of connective tissue, it gives a dimpled appearance to the skin. Cellulite is usually found on the thighs, buttocks, stomach and arms, like literally everywhere you can think of, and can occur on anyone, no matter if you are thin or overweight. There are 3 common stages of cellulite:

Stage 1- Skin is normal when standing or lying down but changes texture during muscle contraction or skin pinching.
Stage 2 – Skin appears like an ‘orange peel’ that is visible especially when you are standing, without any muscle contraction or skin pinching.
Stage 3 – Orange peel texture together with raised skin.

But, What causes cellulite?
There are a lot of factors that contribute to cellulite. Cellulite can also occur due to a poor diet choice, slow metabolism, lack of physical activity, hormone changes, and even dehydration. Additionally, cellulite severity can be affected by the thickness and colour of your skin. Cellulite is more obvious on lighter skin and thinner individual compared to darker and thicker skin tone.
Cellulite occurs in 90% of women and 10% of men. Some of the factors that affect both genders’ chances of having this issue are genes, age and weight. Sometimes, teenagers might even have cellulite problem.

Can you actually get rid of cellulite?
Well, not completely – at least at home. There are a handful of tips and tricks to help lessen the appearance of cellulite that you can easily start now.

1. Dry brushing
You know those wooden body brushes you’ve always considered buying? They are kinda clutch if you’re trying to minimise cellulite appearance. Daily body brushing and massaging can jumpstart lymphatic drainage, which helps to eliminate toxins that can accumulate in the fat layer, leading to inflammation and ultimately more pronounced cellulite.

Pro tip: Dry Brushing requires dry kin, so it’s best to try it before you jump in the shower—and don’t forget to slather on body butter or moisteriser when you hop out.

2. Coffee Rub
If massage aren’t quite your thing, spring for a coffee and pay special attention to your cellulite. When used topically, a ground-coffee exfoliant can minimize the appearance of cellulite in two ways: (1) Massaging the scrub along your skin can help stimulate lymphatic drainage, and (2) Coffee contains caffeine, which temporarily tightens and plumps your skin.

3.Healthy diet to minimise cellulite
Your diet isn’t solely responsible for whether or not you have cellulite—but eating healthy definitely won’t hurt. Remember watching your sodium intake and eating plenty of fiber and whole-grain foods since they help remove waste and toxins from your intestinal tract. Don’t forget to load up on fruits and veggies too.

4. Drink enough water
You might think drinking water sounds like such a basic solution, but if you want to minimize the appearance of cellulite, you need plenty of H2O. Dehydration can cause the skin to become thinner and weaken, and when the skin is thin, it tends to show cellulite more.

5. Find the right aesthetic treatment.
Did you ever wonder why no matter how many cellulite creams and scrubs you slather on your body, you can’t just beat away orange peel skin completely at home? That’s because cellulite forms when fat cells beneath your skin (which, by the way, every has, regardless of how healthy you eat or how active you are) push up against your connective tissue, causing your skin to dimple or pucker. To permanently remove this, require special aesthetic treatments!
